Saturday set lunch at Rakuzen
Saturday, August 11, 2007
We had cravings for Japanese food (again) after our return from Chiangmai and headed down to Rakuzen for lunch. The restaurant was rather quiet as it was almost 2 pm. I decided to order the Rokkaku Bento ($38) as the picture on the menu looked so delicious and I was famished. The bento set consists of chirashi sushi, yakimono (grilled salmon, mushroom and some seafoody thing which looks like a mini abalone), tempura (prawn and vegetable), sunomono (a vinegared dish of pickled vegetables), nimono (mushroom, chicken and lotus root simmered in a tasty broth), chawanmushi, salad, miso soup and fruits. Wow, that was a lot of food.

When the food arrived, the presentation alone was a feast for the eyes. I enjoyed the chirashi sushi as the rice was really nice.
Co ordered the Teppanyaki zen ($21) or diced cut beef steak set. The set came with a big bowl of garlic rice which was fragrant and delicious. The beef could be more tender but it was still very tasty.
C had the sushi and mini udon zen ($22) which was another value for money set.
Service wasn't that attentive this time round but the quality of the food was still good. We will definitely visit this restaurant again to try the other ala carte dishes on the menu.
